Mandated Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse:

Knowing Your Role in the Protection of Our Children

Our Mandated Reporter Training is approved by:

PA Department of Human Services in accordance with Act 31 of 2014 a
PA Department of Education in accordance with Act 126 of the Pennsylvania Public School Code

Cost

$250 base rate plus $5 per participant (no limit on the number of participants)

Training Goals:
To increase the likelihood of mandated reporters making a report of suspected incidents of child abuse to child protective services, including incidents of bodily injury, fabricating, exaggerating, or inducing a medical symptom or disease, serious mental injury, sexual abuse or exploitation, likelihood of bodily injury, likelihood of sexual abuse or exploitation, serious physical neglect, specific recent acts of child abuse, the death of a child, and human trafficking.

Training Objectives:
The training goal will be achieved through the following objectives:

Increase knowledge and ability to identify indicators of bodily injury, fabricating a medical symptom/disease, serious mental injury, sexual abuse or exploitation, likelihood of bodily injury, likelihood of sexual abuse or exploitation, serious physical neglect, specific recent acts of child abuse, the death of a child, and severe forms of trafficking in persons or sex trafficking.
Increase the understanding of the dynamics of child abuse.
Increase understanding of life factors as they affect youth as well as cultural humility as a tool for the mandated reporter.
Increase knowledge of who is classified as a mandated reporter and what those responsibilities are under the Child Protective Services Law.
Increase knowledge of procedure for reporting child abuse to child protective services.
Increase sense of obligation/responsibility to report suspected child abuse to child protectiveservices.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized procedure for resolving trauma or loss memories. Briefly, it involves having the client concentrate on the worst moment of the memory while visually following the therapist’s moving fingers; this bilateral stimulation is repeated with different aspects of the memory until no further distress remains. EMDR is now one of the most well-researched psychotherapy treatments for trauma and (in a recent meta-analysis) has been found to be the most efficient of the well-established trauma treatments.

About the Training

Victim Services Inc. is excited to offer this hands-on clinical skills training for using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and integrating it with your psychotherapy approach - with adults as well as children. This research-supported top-of-the-line training program offers:

Exceeds EMDR International Associations (EMDRIA) criteria for training
No “Parts” or “Levels” — this is the whole package, including all required consultation hours
Bonus training modules on traumatology and attachment work
Completers will be offered a bonus half-day training in the Flash Technique.

The training program involves lecture, demonstration, in-class practice, and on-the-job practice with your clients.

Who May Attend

EMDR training is open to mental health professionals (psychologists, social workers, counselors, couple & family therapists, expressive arts therapists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, etc.) with Masters degrees or higher, who are licensed in Pennsylvania for independent practice. The training is also open to advanced graduate students, interns, and other Masters or higher mental health professionals on a licensure track, with a letter of support from their supervisor. This training is geared to participants at all professional levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced).

Learning Outcomes

Identify clients who are ready for EMDR; and prepare clients for EMDR.
Conduct an EMDR session.
Problem-solve a session that is not going smoothly.
Utilize EMDR with a wide range of clients whose presenting problems are in some way related to trauma and/or loss.
Integrate EMDR into a comprehensive trauma-informed treatment approach.

Time To Completion

Normally, you’ll complete your EMDR training with your group, as scheduled. You will be expected to be present and available for interactive practice on all days of training, for the length of the training day. If you are unable to do so for any reason, you will be asked to complete the remainder of the training days with another cohort, as the practices build upon each other. You will have one year from your first day of training to complete the remainder of the training. Up to an additional year may be allowed in exceptional circumstances, and with the approval of TICTI. Please note that we are unable to give CEs for partially completed trainings.

EMDR Consultation Package

This package includes all the additional (post-EMDR-training) individual and group consultation to qualify for EMDR Certification with EMDRIA.

EMDR Certification Package

This package includes all the additional (post-EMDR-training) individual consultation, group consultation, and EMDRIA CEs required to qualify for EMDR Certification with EMDRIA. PLEASE NOTE: This does not cover fees for joining EMDRIA and/or applying for certification through EMDRIA.

Continuing Education

Includes 50 Continuing Education Credits. Continuing education hours are not available for consultation time, reading requirements, or prerequisites.

Content Note

This is an experiential training, and part of the learning is to practice the interventions with other participants. Because participants are working on their own material during the practice sessions, some individuals have reported that their participation led to facing personal issues; participants are always in charge of what they disclose in class.
